Author Topic: Contrary to popular belief - Pilgrim's clothing on the first Thanksgiving  (Read 2101 times)

A lot of people think that this is what a male pilgrim looked like:

But actually, this isn't the case. See, pilgrims didn't have those buckles, meaning they didn't have that kind of belt, hat, or even shoes.

Just thought this was an interesting bit of info.

Doubt it.

Just pointing this out - I learned this in school; if you really want to know my education level/grade/___ school level or whatever then you can piece it together by checking my age on my profile.

Did anyone ACTUALLY think pilgrims dressed like that?

Jesus.

Anyone can be a pilgrim and they can dress as they like.

Some of the earliest buckles known are those used by Roman soldiers to strap their body armor together and prominently on the balteus and cingulum.

Buckles remained exclusively for the wealthy until the 15th century where improved manufacturing techniques made it possible to easily produce a cheaper molded item available to the general population.
i'm pretty sure they had buckles

i'm pretty sure they had buckles

Well, I meant giant gold-painted buckles for holding together shoes, hats, and belts like THAT. Roman buckles were very different.

I'm talking about the pilgrims of america in the late sixteen hundreds.

Well, brass/bronze/gold coloring. Never said it was actually GOLDEN.

And it just isn't what they would wear.

Can't say I'm surprised by how many people didn't know this.

I'm not trying to MAKE you believe me, I'm just pointing it out. That statement sounds dumb, but... Well, after all, I did just learn this in school, as stated earlier. It's not like I read it on a post in 4chan - not that I like 4chan - or anything.

tl;dr I briefly learned it in school and i'm not willing to go after sources to prove it because it's not like I've discovered how to disprove a religion

so, what you're saying is, you have no source to prove this?
