Author Topic: Practical Thoughts on Humans with Wings  (Read 3030 times)

At rest as stated before would be near three feet, it would not be a good idea nor possible to have giant loving fans hanging out of our back, we didn't evolve with wings for a reason.
Three feet wrapped around the center of the body. If you've ever actually seen a bird you'll notice that while their wings are huge, they only cover the body due to how they bend. I stated this quite clearly. If you don't want to read and make the mental leaps required for actual thought, stop posting.

Holy stuff you are handicapped, if you have wings wrapped around you how are you supposed to function? You cannot. It is not logical, and we will never have wings. So six foot wings while flying that wrap against us. I raise chickens, so there wings are quite large, you would need to move them to move your arms then. So if you try to get water, loving feather spasm everywhere. Your ideas are silly, childish, and flat-out loving handicapped.

Unless our species won't continue without wings, there's no justifiable use of wings.

Plus wings just wouldn't work on the human body.

So you're comparing chickens(a relatively flightless bird) to working wings on a human? Look at eagles and falcons then get back to me.

Eagles and falcons glide, our wings would need to be as big as a hang glider.

And even then we would need to catch pockets of hot air.

Pretty sure you'd need more than giant wings in order to fly.

Of course, this is some childish fantasy of yours so everything gonna soar over your head.

-snip-

He's right you know.

Hmm, that hang glider seems to have 6 feet on each side.  :cookieMonster:

Yeah, how to lift off?! @_@

Eagles and Falcons have an economy of motion due to their large wings, they don't solely glide. No we wouldn't need pockets of hot air. The power and surface area from the wings, body, and muscles would be more than adequate for lift and powered flight.

Unless our species won't continue without wings, there's no justifiable use of wings.

Yeah there aren't very many real world applications, it would just be something neat. A novelty. That being said, it's still my brain child and I'd still love to have a pair of wings, practical in the current world or not.

Lift would be like birds taking off from rest or ducks leaving water. Simple downward power strokes.

I'm off to the gym. I'll be back in an hour or two. Feel free to continue the argument but when I get back if you don't have any real substance in my eyes you'll probably be brushed aside.

Has someone mentioned yet that we'd need extremely light bones to travel through the air?

Yeah, we would need hollow bones, very small head, legs, and arms. The wings would need to be very light and a few meters wide and long, plus the muscle needed to wrap it up would ruin it. So the wings would need to be out all the time and the muscles superhumanly strong.

How about you make homemade wings OP and jump off your home? Sounds perfect, use wings like an eagles and tell us how it will work out!

Has someone mentioned yet that we'd need extremely light bones to travel through the air?
Multiple times.

Has someone mentioned yet that we'd need extremely light bones to travel through the air?
Yes. The added power from the muscles mentioned in OP would counter-act this. They're lighter, denser, and more powerful.

Has someone mentioned yet that we'd need extremely light bones to travel through the air?

First thing I thought.
In the end, it just wouldn't be practical because we'd practically trip and break bones.

That much mass more on your body would probably injure and or kill you

Better start dreaming of jet packs ...

No. No. No. The muscles are even more weight, there is a reason why birds aren't loving ripped.
