Author Topic: Jumping the Shark  (Read 1162 times)

When a show has become so ridiculous that its integrity is beyond restoration, the show has been known to "jump the shark." This phrase originates from an episode of Happy Days where Fonzie literally jumps a loving shark on water skis. The phrase can also be used to describe movies and books that begin to decline in creativity or quality of writing somewhere along the way.

Many shows have been accused of jumping the shark, most often toward the end of the show's run (ex. Rugrats).

Fairly odd parents is a perfect example. Examine Cosmo's character in the first episode of the first season, then examine his character in the first episode of the third season. He basically devolved into a dribbling man child, the same goes for the parents, although at a lesser extent.

Did anyone else expect this to be about skate 3?
