Author Topic: Poll - Fullscreen? (Survey for add-on usability)  (Read 1480 times)

Quick poll to see how many users play in fullscreen vs windowed mode. I've been working on some gamemode ideas lately, and while I can assume most players use certain default controls (e.g. the brick cart is mapped to the number keys), I cannot do the same about certain settings. In this case, whether or not the playerbase leans a certain way will decide whether or not I can rely on a specific add-on interface.

Discussion questions:

  • How do you feel about downloading GUIs to play a certain gamemode? Is it a hassle, or as long as a server provides a link (whether or not this is done through RTB), does that make up for it? If it depends on the quality of the gamemode/GUI, what makes it worth it for you?

  • If you play in fullscreen, would switching to windowed mode instead of downloading a GUI be more or less of a hassle? Are there technical limitations preventing you from doing so (bad/old computer)? Would you prefer just alt-tabbing to see another window instead of switching modes?

Feel free to post about the questions above in this thread or any other thoughts you may have. Since many gamemode developers truly want to make your playing experience enjoyable, this info goes a long way to giving them feedback that can be applied to all gamemodes, rather than on a case-by-case basis.

Thanks.

i wouldn't mind downloading GUIs, even if the said server never supplied a link to one.

I preferably use fullscreen and because of the computer switching to windowed mode would cause problems as blockland can crash easily.

Downloading client sided GUI's for a gamemode makes the experience more lively. I personally do not mind it. But if  I do have to get a GUI i expect it to be a pretty action packed gamemode.

Eegh I hate fullscreen. When I crash massive stuff happens and I have to turn off my computer.

When i use fullscreen mode, i often hit the windows button with the intention of using super shift.

I crash.

I loving hate when that happens.

I always play in fullscreen, and I don't mind having to download GUIs for gameplay as long as they are not broken (like Glass's old trench GUI).
I just hit the windows key whenever I want to open another window.

Control alt delete happens to be effective against that in some cases.

i don't play in fullscreen as i find it takes too long to switch out if i need to check something else. i would rather download a GUI than switch to windowed mode (assuming its going to be a web browser based thing instead)

I always play fullscreen and am jot gonna play in a ugly small window
I don't mind guis though as long as it is ONE per server

Looks like a lot of people use window (myself included), but not enough to rely on it. Thanks for the feedback.

I play on fullscreen so it feels like a real, seamless and well-packaged game.  When it's a window, I get distracted by the background way too easily, and to me, it makes Blockland look a little bit unprofessional.

I play in a window because I need to change to other windows frequently.

I'm fine with downloading GUI's as long as they are well integrated with the gamemode and actually make things easier. The server should provide a link if the user does not have the GUI, but the user should still be able to play without it.

I've always played in a window because it was like that by default. I've tried doing fullscreen, but

I'd like to do fullscreen because windowed mode doesn't support my resolution (also, the lowest bit of the window gets stuck behind the task bar in windowed mode). But the pros of windowed mode outweigh the cons by far in my case.

I just set my windowed BL as large ad it can go so it still has the ease of switching while still retaining good graphics.

GUI's aren't a problem but only if I know the server well and know it's worth it, or ts clear it's worth it once joining. I probably wouldn't restart BL for one though, unless it's like Ploads prison escape in which it's more than worthwhile.
