A woman in an apron motions you to quickly come inside a nearby shop with the lights out. People are frantically running inside. The woman doesn't dare shout out, for fear of attracting the shooters, who appear to have been getting closer, judging by the shouts and shots ringing out.
You rush inside, taking shelter behind the counter. You look back and see the woman locking the front doors and closing the grated screen over the front of the store. They then draw the curtains to hide the people from the shooters' view.
There are several people around you. You hear them breathing heavily, and nervously muttering to themselves. Some women are sobbing to your left. The noises outside seem to fade away, except for some feet scuttling about. A woman, probably the same one who called you to enter, whispered "Quiet! Everyone, they are nearby! Silence!"
The murmur died down, almost to silence. The scuttling went to the right, to the left, back in front of the store, and then stopped. The silence was almost too much to bear. A muffled cry of a newborn broke out, and then the silence remained for a while soon after. Immediately, a man from outside shouted in a booming voice, "We're lookin' for a Forrest McGee! We know that he's inside this place, so I'm giving you all ten seconds 'fore the whole place goes up!"
