The UN voted on it today and now Palestine is a "non-member observer state". It gets access to many UN agencies like the International Criminal Court and this is basically it's official "birth" in the UN.

Celebration in the city of Ramallah

i don't understand United Nations, why is the status called "non-member observer state" and what does it really mean for Palestine?

It's not a full blown member. They tried to get full membership last year but the US vetoed it. This vote had no veto power in it and that's why they won with 138 votes for them, 9 against including the USA, and 41 abstained.

good. isreal has been getting away with loving with them for years.
now they are getting some legitimacy by other nations.

rip israel
Not even close. Palestine still doesn't control it's borders, airspace or trade, it has separate and competing governments in Gaza and the West Bank and has no unified army or police. It is a step closer, but I guess we will see what happens and how these "peace talks" turn out.

:o looks like art has Palestinian roots to it!

This is great
ikr. I'm going to call my family that lives there tonight and see what their thoughts are on this.

When Israel was established, they pushed everyone who lived there out. They have also had a war pretty much every year since their creation, so lots of territories have been in dispute.
