Author Topic: Problems with NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M GPU.  (Read 2454 times)

Hi guys, so my GPU has been acting up for a long time. I need some help.

Every couple of minutes, any application using my dedicated graphics card would freeze momentarily and come back but then the last part would depend on the application. Let me explain, on Blockland, when it would freeze, the game would completely stop, clients would not be affected if I'm hosting, but then the game would flash black and recover. On DeSmuME, the game would freeze temporarily, right, but then when it came back to life, the FPS would be horribly low and then gradually recover.

These are just some examples of apps being affected by my video chip. I am getting really annoyed and I can't tolerate this anymore. Can someone give some advice?

well, if you start getting artifacts, that probably means it's dying.

But I just got this computer 3 months ago.

Your GPU is probably defective, or you're using buggy drivers.

Install MSI Afterburner, it comes with something to test, moniter and adjust your graphics card.
If it's too high of a temperature, then your card is on it's way out.

Well this is unacceptable.

SOLUTION: get a gtx670OC
How much money does it cost? Is it compatible with an Acer Timeline X 4830TG?

You're suggesting him parts when it's blatantly obvious he has a laptop. Don't do this.
Ensure nothing is using all of the processor's resources during these freezes (random virus scans, etc.)

Is the temperature 51*C bad at all?

Nvidia's past few drivers have been very sketchy. If the newest one doesn't solve the issue its a defective card or something else causing it.

Because your using windows 8  :cookieMonster:

Yeah, don't know.

Windows 8 might actually be the problem. Dunno if the drivers are optimized for it. Same goes with the games.
