I can't set it as default device.

search for windows update.
run it.
got the same problem, you need new drivers

Did both of those, didn't fix it.

Last time it did this I had to reinstall windows. :(

How about reinstalling your entire OS!

Only costs all of your personal files!

There's probably a really simple way of fixing this that doesn't end with you reinstalling windows.

Try any of these :
1 : Try unplugging your speakers.
2 : Click the little arrow next to Set Default and click Default Device, don't click default communications device

There's really simple way around that, it's called back ups.

There's probably a really simple way of fixing this that doesn't end with you reinstalling windows.
I've gone through pages upon pages of Google searches and forum threads, all ending with solutions that don't apply to me (uninstall skype, realtek audio or something, etc.)

I've been meaning to reinstall to completely get rid of this bloatware HP gave me anyway.
