Author Topic: I Got Rid of Cable TV Because It's a Waste of Money  (Read 588 times)

A few days ago I got rid of cable TV, I did this because it's nothing but junk shows such as reality TV (people are like zombies with reality TV), murder crime solving, etc.. It got old. I believe it's almost $200 for the cable package, and that's just ridiculous. I also find all the shows I watch getting canceled such as Last Resort for example. So, why would anyone want to pay $200 when they can stream the same shows for about $7 a month on Hulu Plus and less ads?

Don't forget about Crackle, where you can also stream movies and shows for free and it's completely legal too. Then there is Netflix streaming for about $8 per month. But because of their 1 month wait time after a release I don't bother with it. Don't forget about Amazon prime, where you can also stream for free. It's about $76 for a year, OR $36 if you go to college (just register with a .edu email, you also get 6 months free).

Anyway, my point is that cable TV is just not worth it anymore. It's being filled with crap like reality TV, and while the stuff shows stay the good shows go. Plus it costs so much.

Reality tv is a plague.  I miss the days when the History Channel was about history.

I'm kind of baffled you attribute TV to "reality TV shows" considering I find all the shows I like with the only mention of such things being from Colbert or other comics criticizing them. Point being that that isn't TV - don't watch it. I'm sure there are plans without it. Not that I mean fro you to get it, just that I don't consider it real TV and it isn't what TV is.

I highly agree, I really hate cable TV.  Amazon Prime sounds like a great deal, I'll definitely look into it once I get into college.

I only watch The Walking Dead on TV anyways.  Very rarely I might watch something that my family is also watching, I really just can't stand the time wasted by commercials.  If it's watching movies that are on those premium movie channels that's fine with me though.

Who the hell are you getting your TV from? $200?

I get 60/10 internet, the best HDTV package + DVR + On Demand + movie channels, and home phone from Comcast for $135 a month.

My family went down to basic cable, we dropped our home phone and upgraded our internet. Best decision ever.

yay for 100mbit/s internet!

yeah i only watch like 6 different channels. but you gotta have the entire basic cable package for em x.x

I get every channel, and every package free. c:
