The Ford Escape is a cheap, plasticky and overall stuff vehicle. Get something else.
How is it a stuff vehicle? I need some facts.

Just get a fricken Honda Civic.  It will last MUCH longer considering that you maintain it.

if you just want something to travel short distances in why get something like an escape lol? why not a more fuel efficient, smaller, cheaper car? the escape is basically just a fancy looking minivan.

I personally have a gas guzzling jeep. I wish I had a car or bike now.

I'll probably have to travel quite a bit in it. I'll be spending a lot of time in said vehicle.

Err.. A crossover?
Yea...it's $27,525 starting MSRP, which is the cheapest model, and MPG City/highway is 21/30

yeah, but you aren't doing like road trips or carting kids around everywhere. tbh the escape is probs not your best bet, you would be just as well off with a used honda civic.

I like the 08+ Civics, but it's like a Negative and a Positive magnet. There's no way I could put myself in one.

According to MSN Auto, The Ford Fiesta is the number one car below $15k. Has 120 Horsepower and MPG is 30 City/40 Highway.

Hatchback. I'm not basing my decision primarily on gas. The Escape was fine for me in gas. There are other factors to consider here.
