Author Topic: A quick question about computer viruses and BL Forums..  (Read 375 times)

So, a couple minutes ago I was bored and started looking for topics about people and them suffering from viruses, and I went onto one by Lando the Climber who had the RAT virus, and I saw a couple posts saying things like "Oh god I went onto this thread and Avast detected a trojan" and "oh loving stuff all my steam games just opened on their own." And so then, I went to scan with McAfee but then I saw it was already scanning, but it seems it's been scanning for a while already considering it's already scanned about 300,000 files, but now for the question, is it possible to get a virus from looking at topics with posters who have a virus?

Yeah I keep getting a virus from the forums some how :c

You have to have love with the topics first, silly.

I look at virus topics sometimes too :cookieMonster: But regarding that topic, I think the people weren't being serious, I don't think there's any way to 'embed' a virus into a webpage unless it was a Java drive-by or something, and you can't put those into BBcode posts. You'd require them to go to an external link and if that happened they'd be banned and the link would be removed swiftly. I don't know if there's some hardcore way to do it that I don't know about, but as far as I know, no.

tl;dr no.

If you're worried about that, you should really only be worried about some sort of browser hijacking by Java or flash or something. In that case, get a sandboxing browser, those will keep most people relatively safe. Don'f forget to scan for viruses though.

Why would you even think that?
