Author Topic: The Game - Pause!  (Read 9033 times)

thanks to tetris
you dont have to read all this stuff below but its kind of helpful

Summary
When I was a little kid, me and some kids used to play this game we came up with ourselves called The Game. The gist was that you chose characters and fought in random arenas, scenarios, duels, or anything you could think of. There was no theme, there was no aim to the game, there was no story, we went with it as we went along. You could upgrade the characters which the "gamemaker" or whatever you wanted to call him, would come up with, along with what you would be doing. No limit to what your character could be either, you can have a laser shooting robot in the same room as a sword-wielding knight, it didn't matter. Only 12 players will be playing, as its hard to fit more then that into the game.

Gameplay

This is Roll-to-Dodge, which is when you state an action, I roll a 6 sided dice which chooses how successful you are. Success rate is:
1-2: Very nice
3-4: Objective may have been completed, but not with desired results
5-6: Objective is probably not completed and you receive some kind of penalty

First off, you start with one character, which you will choose from the list below. That character will start off weak, and as you do more battles you level up. When I played it, you started out with fists or knives, but I don't know if I want to do that.

Once you choose your character, you are put into an arena, a mission (ex: d-day mission or something), or you duel against another player or AI. There are also boss battles which instantly level you up.

Leveling is done randomly based on success. More detail will be given in the upgrades/leveling section.

Arenas are themed to who you are fighting, if you are fighting pirates it might be a ship with sharks in the water. Duels are always random maps, and boss battles are enemy-themed as well. Missions have their own maps, obviously. Players can be fighting players controlled by me, or each other. Sometimes you will get to choose what arena you would like, but most the time it will be chosen by mua. You will also lose some matches, so don't complain about that.

Leveling/Upgrades

Every round fought you are closer to upgrading, which can give you abilities, weapons, upgraded weapons, or a new character slot. When you reach level 5, you can have a second character who starts at level 1. Upgrade themes are as follows. When you choose to spend a point on a WEAPON, PERK, ITEM, or ARMOR, you do NOT choose what you get, I choose for you. This is what makes the game more interesting and easier to handle.

Ability Points - Every level up, you get a certain amount of ability points, these can be put towards a new ability (perk) or upgrading one, a new weapon or upgrading one, or armor or upgrading your current armor. When you want a new thing for any section and you are maxed out, you must swap out an old thing for it.

Weapon - Ability points can be put toward weapons, which cost one point. This allows your character to get new weapons that correspond to their theme (a Navy SEAL would get a smg or something). Or, you can upgrade your current weapon to be better, when you decide on this, it could be any upgrade ranging from damage to speed. YOU ONLY GET 3 WEAPONS AT A TIME,

Perks - Each character is unique, and when you get a new perk, its also unique. These also cost 1 point. Perks can be anything, maybe you get a soldier to fight alongside you, maybe you get a shield bearer, maybe its a catapult, maybe it is a short period of rage time. Whatever it is, its pretty badass. You can upgrade a current perk to be better (there is a limit, mind you) or get a new one. YOU ONLY GET 5 PERKS AT A TIME.

For Perks, if your player wants to achieve and action that I don't state he can do and doesn't seem like something anyone can do easily, he CANT do it, its NOT possible. You cannot grab an enemies weapon and rip it out of their hands unless thats your perk. You cannot break a weapon unless thats your perk. Only one perk can be used per turn. You cannot do some fancy martial arts move unless its stated somewhere that you can.

Armor/Items - This gives you new items and armor such as NVG's, armor plating, kevlar, helmets, all that good stuff. Items can't be upgraded as much, but are still useful. They both cost 1 point. ARMOR VARIES DEPENDING ON PLAYER, ITEMS ARE LIMITED AT 2.

Character Slot - This takes up all 3 points and allows you to get a new character to use. New characters start at 2/3 your current level, you automatically get a new character at level 5, but he starts at 1. You can only have 3 characters and cannot swap out.

How to Apply

The only requirment for joining is picking a character. Two people can not have the same character.

Characters (this will be updated periodically)

All characters are unique and have their own upgrades, weapons, perks, items and armor. When you choose a new character, it doesn't have to be in theme with the others. Some characters say "Tier 2 or 3", this means they can't be picked as a primary character. Tiers are based on character slots. When you choose a character, expect weapons that correspond to their theme. No rocket launchers for your ninja.

ADDITIONAL INFO
- Health (player) is how much damage you can take
- Damage (weapon) is the base amount of health your weapon/ability will take away.
- Defense (weapon) is how well you defend against attacks with that weapon/item.
- Ammo (weapon) is how many rounds your weapon holds in a clip before you have to reload, which takes 1 turn.
- Firerate (weapon) is how many shots you can fire with that weapon/item per turn.
- HP (weapons) is how much health your item/shield/whatever has. If a wooden shield has 5 health, it will be destroyed after it take 5 damage from anything.
- Armor adds additional health, or provides extra protection in realistic matches. Most attacks will take away armor health like regular health, but some weapons may bypass armor and take away direct health. This does nothing to your armor health (unless specified otherwise), however players can die if they lose all their normal health and not their armor health.

Ill do it,
Character: Samurai.

So it's kind of like Dungeons & Dragons?

Character: Dovahkiin Wizard

Wait, what, I have to be one of the characters from the list? They look stuffty, can we please have a mage? Including half of them are modern military enforcers who aren't warriors at all, actually let the game have diversity.

Bring my char from the last game pls :3
you can have the same character but he wont have all the same stuff. you'll have to start out fresh lol, cant have you being really strong while everyone else is weak.
we lost it already
oops~~
Character: Dovahkiin Wizard

Wait, what, I have to be one of the characters from the list? They look stuffty, can we please have a mage? Including half of them are modern military enforcers who aren't warriors at all, actually let the game have diversity.
ill add wizard as a tier 2 character, would be too strong for a tier 1.
So it's kind of like Dungeons & Dragons?
uh i've never played d&d but from what i've heard i guess? its not really as complicated though, and its more of arena based fighting then a full campaign.

all characters will be added to the character list along with you're first weapon. we will start once i get back from school.

I want to be my character from last game, the baseball player

alright, all characters have been added to the OP with your starting weapon. as stated in the previous game, you start off as a crappy character because you build yourself up. use your points wisely and you can be a powerful player your team relies on in no time. just be patient.

also please use common sense, this game does follow some basic realities. you cannot block a warhammer with your wooden pole. you cannot perform amazing hand-to-hand ninja fighting moves if you are a construction worker. no 1 mile headshots as a security gaurd with your crappy sidearm. keep it real.

so lets start.

ROUND 1

DIFFICULTY - Easy

ENEMY - Five "Sackers". These creatures are fairly tall beasts with no facial features other then two holes which act as nostrils. Due to having no eyes, they detect enemies through vibrations. They fight only with their clawed hands or by biting their victims with razor sharp teeth. HEALTH: 6 WEAPONS: None DAMAGE: 1-3

MAP SIZE - Small

You find yourself in a destroyed city. You are standing in the middle of a 2 lane street, with towering, boarded up buildings on either side. Rubble and run-down cars are spaced throughout the street. Ahead is a T-intersection, one lane going left and the other going right. The wind appears to be blowing towards you, at a pretty moderate speed. visibility is nearly perfect, and the time is about midday.

What do you do?

Aw damn, fine.
so do you still want to be part of the game or...?

Stay on the side of a boarded building.
