Author Topic: How should I go about transferring BL files between computers?  (Read 1326 times)

In a few days, I'm getting a desktop computer. I have a save on my BL that I'd like to transfer over to my new computer, due to the fact that it is more than 9 months in the making and looks awesome.

I'm wondering... should I:

  • Transfer files using the service they might give?
  • Backup the files on a memory stick and transfer them that way?

If I lose this save, I'm going to get pissed off.

Put it on a memory stick, 2 if you can.
Also, just a heads up: it's the .bls you want, don't accidentally only copy the image!

Ok, thanks
Should I do this for all my BL files? (add-ons + saves)

You can use a USB flash drive, I used one with 4gb.
Dont do it for everything though. If you redownload blockland on your new computer and put the save on and it has addons you used for it,
You're going to have to redownload the addons, colorsets, ect.

Do this for every file you wish to keep, although you don't HAVE to put unimportant things like add-ons on both memory sticks.

This basically

I have Squideey's brick textures in my files.
What should I do about those?

Eh I would just redownload them, you could keep them though if you want. Shaders get rid of the lines in the bricks when its night time.

You can also upload them to http://skydrive.com if you want.

Do I copy anything else other than the .bls file?

A memory stick, USB flash drive, or SD card should do the trick.

You also copy all the add-ons because you don't want to spend half a year figuring out which 3 bricks packs you used in this build and why half of it is missing.

You also copy all textures and everything you downloaded because chances are they get removed for no reason and you lost them forever.

I've done this a bunch of times. Copy it onto a flash drive, plug it into the other computer, and drag it onto your desk top/ into the folder it needs to go to. What I'd do if I were you is to before transferring the add ons is to label the folder on the second computer Add-onsOLD.

Then copy the new Add-Ons folder into the blockland folder to run.

I'll do this
But can't you just look in the add-on folder of your old computer?
