Author Topic: The Diabetes Thread- Type 1 & Type 2 are not the same.  (Read 1623 times)

Hello fellow diabetics. I hate bringing my diabetes into threads about sickness's so I decided to just make a thread for it. One thing I want people to know is this: Type 1 & Type 2 are not the same. People have a misconception that if you have Type 1 you got it from being fat, while it is not.

Type 1: In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. Only 5% of people with diabetes have this form of the disease. With the help of insulin therapy and other treatments, even young children with type 1 diabetes can learn to manage their condition and live long, healthy, happy lives.

Type 2: Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. Millions of Americans have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and many more are unaware they are at high risk. Some groups have a higher risk for developing type 2 diabetes than others. Type 2 diabetes is more common in African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, and Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, as well as the aged population.

In type 2 diabetes, either the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is necessary for the body to be able to use glucose for energy. When you eat food, the body breaks down all of the sugars and starches into glucose, which is the basic fuel for the cells in the body. Insulin takes the sugar from the blood into the cells. When glucose builds up in the blood instead of going into cells, it can lead to diabetes complications.

wilford brimley is amazing and a inspration to diabetics evrywhur. ;) god bles wilford brimley

Diabetes yo! Type 2 is actually starting to be attributed to genetics over weight now though. So not everyone that has type 2 is fat either. But at least with type 2 you can manage it with dietary changes which seems a lot more convenient than having to completely control the insulin which sucks so much

Yea, they're finding type 2 can be genetics. also i would rather have type 2 than 1 because you can get rid of type 2 instead of 1.

>reads anything involving any disease
>has one symptom
>"i have cancer"

If I recall correctly, Type two has the potential of turning into type one.
Completely incorrect, Although I think it's possible to have both.

Nope, they're not the same thing at all.

I tend avoid sucrose and corn syrup based food items these days.

I don't mean that they are the same thing, Although I'm most likely incorrect on what I do mean.

are you attempting to argue with a diabetic about diabetes?

are you attempting to argue with a diabetic about diabetes?
Not to worry, Let's have a nice and simple discussion.

Now I see the problem, I used correct instead of incorrect.
