Author Topic: Opinion about gun control?  (Read 20673 times)

This term "assault weapon" means absolutely nothing. The guy at the last school shooting used a ar-15, that's a normal semi automatic rifle that just looks scary. Assault weapon is just thrown around to scare people, it means absolutely nothing at all.
Looks scary? It's a weapon designed for military use! The rate of fire is fast as hell too.

Limited to the rate you can pull the trigger, it's semi-auto.

An AR-15 isn't an M-16, an AR-15 isn't an automatic gun. There's no reason for a person to own an automatic firearm and that's why it's illegal. People just label guns that look scary looking as an assault weapon.

What I'm trying to argue here is that these massacres have very little to do with gun laws and more to do with mental health issues.

Well back in world war 2 when the first assault rifle was invented by Germany, the rifle called the StG42 fired a projectile that was in between a pistol calibre and a rifle calibre. So Riddler called it the assault rifle.

Also the firing modes on the M16 are semi, burst, and safety. No full auto unless you are thinking of its baby brother the M4.

I was going by more of the legal definition of firing more than round if you pulled the trigger, but right on wikipedia it does say "adapted for semi-automatic, three-round burst and full-automatic fire".

Most people calling guns assault rifles are using it as a buzzword to drum up fear.

The AR-15 is a semi automatic rifle. Its use is distributed primarily amongst civilians.

Thomas Jefferson literally wrote the words thst establish our government, and he believed that the right to hold arms and bear then in rebellion was necessary. To repeat myself again, when governments fear their people, there is liberty. All else is tyrrany.

Purchasing weapons should be ridiculously expensive and require a state-issued license to wield weapons unless you're in the military.

No, guns should cost what it costs to manufacture them plus a reasonable profit for the manufacturer. Your idea still does not account for illegal weapons already here.

require a state-issued license to wield own weapons unless you're in the military

I broke it down and reworded it:
Specifically, the militia is the right of the people to keep and bear arms.
That is not the right interpretation though lol. In the 2008 case District of Columbia v. Heller the Supreme Court determined that the right to posses firearms is unconnected with service in a militia.

you already need licenses to simply own guns.

It seems like those licenses are being handed out like candy or that it isn't being enforced strictly enough, then.

Not at all, bud.

Ban guns alltogether, and any guns should be only for military use.
