Author Topic: Suggest a laptop?  (Read 1965 times)

I'm currently without a computer of my own, and that's dreadfully inconvenient, so can y'all suggest a laptop for under $500? 400 or under would be even better, but I don't think that's realistic. I don't care what OS it runs. All I need it for is Web browsing, text editing, Skype, and Steam, so fancy, high-end specs are unnecessary. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: To clarify, Web browsing means I'll be able to google things, go on the forums, bulbapedia, etc. Won't play any games, including flash or java, won't watch YouTube videos, won't be downloading small games/videos/anything except images and text files. And Skype and steam, obviously. Only using steam as a chat client, though.

Seems like this one would be good value given what you need out of it.

I agree with pea-- wtf is with your avatar? Ew.

That seems a little overkill, but I'll keep it mind.

Even though you don't want to play games or edit movies, you don't want to end up with a stuffter that'll be outdated in a year, struggling to run ever evolving web media. Buy what you need plus a little extra to give you room.

This one is really similar, but a little cheaper

If you honestly don't care about anything besides the barebones get an older IBM they're loving solid laptops and I love them so much.

The computer I'd been using was five or six years old, so I'm used to outdated technology. Plus I'll be able to use my brother's gaming desktop for stuff, soon. And this one only needs to last two years. Longer should be better, of course, but that's my minimum. However, if you really think it'll be an issue, I'll take this one into heavy consideration.

I'm also one of those people that has spent much of my computing life on outdated hardware.

Why would you put yourself in a situation like that when you have a chance to get the most out of your money? You are already planning on how to compromise, ridiculous!

what's wrong with magnimite :(

Magnemite is worst pokemon.

The one Spectrum posted is hard to compare with, the one I posted is undoubtedly more powerful (if not by much) and has a slightly larger screen. It's really up to you.

yeah now that I look at it, it's really worth it to just spend the extra $80

Acer Aspire's are quite good actually. I use one and it can run pretty much any game at ultra graphics. Including some games I tried recently like AC3, FC3, GTA IV, and quite a few others that I can't name right now.
