Author Topic: Suggest a laptop?  (Read 1960 times)

I strongly recommend avoiding Acer and Dell just so you know. They are companies with a history of shoddy products and bad customer service. This isn't my opinion, its a generally accepted belief by many people who have owned those products or who keep up with technology companies.

My Acer monitor works well, but it may be the exception. I already knew to avoid Dell, but thanks for the advice.

Doesn't matter with peripherals as much. Monitors are usually just LCD or LED panels with inverters, packaged with a power supply in a custom case with custom front panel buttons.

You can buy generic branded monitors with the same screen panels featured in Apple's Cinema displays for half the price.

Reviewers on NewEgg weren't too fond of the suggested laptop. How much weight should I put into those?

I looked at the reviews. It was mostly complaints about windows 8, or about bad manufacturer support. Personally non issues for me since I like Win8 and I can usually diagnose problems myself.

I could get my brother to help me with and issues, and 8's as good as any else to me, so you have a good point.

Acer Aspire's are quite good actually. I use one and it can run pretty much any game at ultra graphics. Including some games I tried recently like AC3, FC3, GTA IV, and quite a few others that I can't name right now.

Its not really a question of if it can play games or if you like it, ProdWad.

I've decided to go with the Samsung Chromebook, since it's a good price and does most of what I want. Thanks Port.

FYI you won't be able to use Skype or Steam on a chromebook, since you can't really install anything aside from HTML5 scripts.

I already looked into Skype, I can use that with IMO.something or other. As for steam, I guess I can just use my phone. Not ideal, but workable.

I still highly suggest against it. You can't even run web java applications in the browser.

I used a chromebook for about 2 hours and was about ready to smash it against something because of how little I could do with it.

I don't think I use java apps, really. And again, this is only for Web browsing, basically. I'll have access to a heavy duty gaming rig in a few days, if I need to use that.

Edit: Sorry if I'm being stubborn, this just sounds like the best deal.
