We wouldn't as great of a society that we do without religion.

how can you not believe in a religion but still call yourself an agnostic christian

0/10
I lean towards Christianity mostly due to family but a little out of choice, but at the same time I'm still heavily agnostic.
Also, you got killed in the first spiderman movie, shush.

You are a sinner.

I don't really get the "The bible describes one being, accepted as male, who controls the universe." considering God doesn't have a gender and how is that a con anyway? I just pulled out one of my bibles, every instance of god refers to him with he, him or his.In fact all that cons list is forgeted up.I thought I made it all pretty clear
Most aren't actual cons, you have 2 points against inconsistency because even when I was little and accepted Christianity without question I realized the inconsistencies of the bible. It was a pretty big deal when I found even the smallest margin of error, being such a highly coveted book., just because you don't understand the bible doesn't mean nobody else does now I don't mean to be rude but who can say they understand the bible. That's like how an English teachers asks what the author meant by "the curtains were red.", the library rules wtf are you joking?no, I'm not. In church you sit down, you stay quiet, and generally don't have fun at all unless you go to Sunday school and your with friends and your chatting with them. Or unless you really really like learning about Christianity, but personally I've always been impartial to an older guy trying to explain a creator I don't even know anymore but you seem very ignorant in this situation.irony

Snip

Fair points, I told her after she simmered down that I wouldn't raise the subject.

It also might be fair to mention that I brought up the church of the flying spagetthi monster and since then these discussions always end with her super pissed off.

Not to mention Buddhist Burma, the Thugee murders, the Inquisition, the Witch Hunts, the Roman persecution of Christians, and Islamic Jihads.

This is over a 6 million person death toll.

What?

I like how people blame religion on all of the world's troubles. even if there wasn't religion in the world, there would still be senseless killings, wars, famine, hunger, hate.

I believe most of the world's wars were fought for power and oil other than religion and hate. NOTE that I said MOST not all.

I have to agree

You forgot the wiki definition of religious wars :L
And don't forget our current Zealots, the west borough baptist church

Argument seems to lean mostly atheism/against religion, though mostly balanced.
I would like to point out that in my younger age, I willingly accepted god as fact. Then puberty hit and I decided that I was listening to a load of bullstuff with no factual evidence (which darky pretty much hit the nail on the head, in reference to what I considered.)

Fair view, but keeping in mind that religious figures in early Europe were almost as powerful as kings, let's just keep that in perspective. Nonetheless, I agree. Some wars just happen. But then again, WWII wouldn't have been the way it was because Riddler wouldn't be able to kill off Jews, per se. He actually might have been an artist instead (I envy his paintings. :I)

Torah? I think you're right, not entirely sure on that.

"Religious" wars, especially outside biblical times,  were just rulers exploiting the use of religious fervor to spread influence, and probably not actually the monarch or pope actually feeling compelled by God or whatever deity they believed in. Denominational wars were heavily for power control, just look at the Thirty year's war which at first was religious based (all though it was heavily region based) but then at one point Catholic France and the rest of the Protestants attacked the Holy Roman empire. Really, the only denomination that didn't cause a ton of conflict were the decentralized and scattered Calvinists.

Yes I left out 'have' sorry for the confusion

It's not religion itself that's the problem. It's how easily it can manipulate people. Like slavery: in the Deep South, the churches would preach that the bible supported slavery. So they continued without moral dilemma. Also, Riddler believed it was "the work of The Lord" to "defend" himself against Jews.

I myself am an atheist, and think those who believe in jealous invisible sky monsters are pudding heads. But i still think religion could have been a lot better if it didn't make people gullible and manipulatable.

I personally hate the church but still believe in the message
