Says the guy with no "religion".

christianity/catholism/protestants/etc in the UK aren't really bitchy about their religion at all.
that explains why we don't have groups that are  like the WBC or the kool kids klub.

i like how you cited webisites for the cons but not the pros.
also half of that wall of text isnt even religion, its just dealing with your family.

but anyways
CONS**
1 the Wikipedia definition for 'religious war'
2 the huffington post on 13 silly commandments
3 20 problems with Christianity
4 Everyone judges you in church, it's just another excuse for the school bully to pick on you
5 Drinking the blood of Christ (wine/juice) is pretty damn similar to old rituals of drinking animal blood to cleanse the body. Just as heavenly I suppose.
6 the bible is inconsistent
7 The bible was written by men
8 The bible describes one being, accepted as male, who controls the universe.
9 atheistic view of the bible's inconsistencies
10 Church has the same ground rules as a library: be quiet, no running around, dress nicely, generally no fun.
11 Nobody really understands the bible/Christianity EXCEPT for maybe a pope or pastor
12 they always spew religious crap everywhere. Your on the beach in California? I garuntee someone will ask if you would be able to spare some time for Jesus.

*The bible is actually extremely violent, in one such case I recall the bible to command you to cut off the hands of your wife if she attempts to assist you in a fight, see cons for bible verse)
1 people fight over everything, not just religion.
2 quote from that site "But others have argued that the passage is merely one of many archaic religious laws that are no longer relevant to today's modern times and do not need to be upheld."
3 this site brings up some valid points, im not going to lie.
4 not really, ive shown up to church in shorts in the winter and noone said anything.
5 similar =/= related. i could say kicking a soccer ball for fun is just like kicking someone face in for fun, doesnt make them related at all.
6 the bible is filled with metaphors and at times not ment to be taken literally. its also a few thousand years old and writen by many different people.
7 i dont see a problem with this.
8  “God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27) that means he created both male and female in his image, so he is not either gender, he transcends gender
9 like i said above, the bible is very old and is not meant to be taken literally at times.
10 a church is a place for respect and worship, not a kiddie fun land.
11 if noone understood christianity, why is it one of the worlds major religions? also what you think isnt what eveyone else thinks.
12 in all my life i have not seen one person come up to me and ask me to be religious. not once. even if someone comes up to you, just say no thanks or something and they just back away.

thats just my 2 cents.

But, guess what the Bible is?
it's not a holy book, nor was designed to be one.
Or at least, that's my take on it. I view it as a collection of stories, of fairy tales, that are open-ended and able to be interpreted whatever way the reader wishes.

And people who take it far too literally are the scumbags of society.

Most of these "pros" have nothing to do with the establishment and confines of religion.

Religion is okay with me, just don't expect to pull me into it because you think it's a good thing.
(hypothetically speaking)

I take that stance on most things, as long as you stay to yourself I'm okay with it

It 'prevents' inappropriate behavior (i.e. swearing, manslaughter*, etc)
I don't think you know what manslaughter is

why do you think that

why do you think that

=

All you have to do now, is believe that everything in the oxford book happened and will affect your life in the long term, and it GOVERNS YOU WITH A HOLY IRON FIST

basically what the bible is

except for the fact that it specifically says that it's a collection of short stories

i find it kind of annoying that people use the generic christian grouping and trash all christians for being too pushy and politically oriented

the whole reason the dark ages happened is that the catholic church decided it wasn't just a religious power but a political superpower too, and decided it was the authority on the bible and decided to keep everyone dumbed down like sheep so they could never think for themselves

the whole reason the protestant reformation happened is because some of the intellectuals exposed the falsehoods and corruption at a turning point in history and broke the political monopoly of the church

which is kind of where the "separation of church and state" argument came from
