A perfect gauge of happiness is very unlikely unless you want to measure every micro-gram of dopamine in my head when I ride a bike or watch a funny cat video. I made it simple by giving you a 1 - 10 scale, under 5 being sad and over 5 being relatively happy.

well how have they failed?

this is a subjective point you're presenting, can you at least explain what you mean?

4/10. Been pretty bored today.

My head hurts, ive been coughing alot and occasionally sneezing.

2/10

5/10

my mouth hurts and I'm lonely  :(

Meh, 4 (yesterday, right now it's 1:57am)
Slow day, mom was being a bossy bitch, plans are falling apart and gf and I didn't really talk aside from winky faces and "euheueheyhe were going bowling in pitch darkness wink wink ;;;;)))"

Today thus far, 8. I've been watching machinima's bro team series and I have been stifling laughs the whole time (so as to not wake family)
But, my throat is sore as stuff. Which I probably got from my girlfriend. You pervs can figure out how I got it. ;;)))) wink
Day will be better though, today we bowl with my family just for fun and we're having dinner together, and I'll be driving her which normally means her practically loving my right hand while I drive lefty, then make o-

forget it, today's a 10, #yola #yolo

A person is only happy when they are being subjected to dopamine, so unless someone is constantly being subjected to dopamine everyone's rating should technically be around 1/10. People are gauging how happy they are in relation to other, perceivably opposite emotions, which is also skewed since you can be happy while sad or angry. A better scale would be how contempt you are, because you can't be contempt with something while sad or angry at it, or how happy we should be, since we can have reason to be happy, like having something we wanted or being with a loved one, but we don't actually feel happy because  we aren't paying attention to those things or thinking about them in a way that makes us feel happy.

Emotions are complicated, gauging anything is tricky because it would be like asking how far away a star is while giving a person only 10 distances to choose from.

It's pretty loving easy to understand. It's not a neurology class, it's "Are you happy or are you sad"

uh no
happiness is an emotional state
it's a very general thing
I'm not being subjected to dopamine right now and yet I'm quite happy
also, you mean content. contempt is a noun, meaning a mix of anger and disgust
