Author Topic: Would a wooden submarine be possible?  (Read 2527 times)

I was wondering if a small, one person, wooden submarine could be built and would work? I'm not aiming for super depths, maybe 5 feet at it's deepest?

yes anything can be a submarine if its made airtight.

but weaker material cant go as deep without implodin.

Marine grade plywood would work I assume? But I don't know how much weight I would need to keep it submersed, but still able to surface if I pump water out of the ballast.

well by deep i mean like a mile under lol.

Put 5 average Americans any floating wooden object it becomes a submarine.

actually it becomes a sunken ship

Why do you need a wooden submarine?

Drug smuggling obviously. But in all seriousness I like boat building and so do many other people, so building something for going underwater would be a really cool, yet cheap next step.

Going that far down would be absurd in something really small, I'm talking about something maybe 7' long and 4' wide with a 30 minute oxygen supply.

a submarine can return to land
Remove 3 people and bam it returns.

"Alright, clark, jimmy, and james. Looks like you guys get to swim to the surface this time, me and bob will stay here."
