Author Topic: Virus/Comp. Screw-up stories - BREKKING NEWZ - BADSPOT VIRUS FOUND  (Read 5981 times)

First, yeah, i've made some topics lately, and the reason i locked the therapy one was because i always had the thought/urge to check back every minute, and second, this isn't one of my worry/scared topics, i'm just interested in hearing stories about stories like first/not first-virus encounters, or about how you accidentally messed up your comp or thought you did

Mine:
Back when I first joined the forums, I always saved images because I didn't know about copying and pasting their links, and at one point I saved this portal image of cartoon Chell hugging a companion cube, and suddenly a fake Anti-Virus popped up listing all these trojans, I believed it, and clicked "remove", which downloaded something, I thought it didn't work so I clicked "remove" again, and then it did the same thing, I don't know what happened after that but we had to format it.

IN TODAYS VIRUS NEWS..

Hey, those are pretty coo-HOLY CRAP, WAIT

WHAT IS THIS

One time I tried to partition Windows 98 onto my other computer but it failed, then I thought I had erased the contents of my hard disc but I the operation had changed the boot sequence to the A:\ Drive and I didn't know and then I was panicked for a while but then everything was ok.

One time, my computer was in my backpack. My brother threw the backpack
rip my computer's screen and some other internals that i still haven't diagnosed.

Did your brother get died?

Did your brother get died?
Later, he'll be the one paying for the repairs.

Oh god, I love how your avatars have perfect timing, and also, I just remembered another thing, once I got Gamespy, I saw spyware and the spyware logo, and then I thought Gamespy was spyware so I instantly uninstalled it, thinking that it was spyware, and plus, I used to think viruses were crazy-comp-killing-devils that came from hell.

Back in the AOL days, I was into the AOL 'proggies' such as Fate X. One time I got AOHell in a mass mail (it wasn't easy for me to get it, if I remember.)

Anyway, in my excitement I proceeded to download it (took ages), and ran the program. All of a sudden the computer restarts and then wouldn't boot into windows. Oh no! I've broken my dad's p200 mmx machine.

To be clear, I don't remember exactly what happened after I ran it. I had thought I downloaded an infected copy of the program. I remember there being a lot of AOL-created hype about AOHell being infected with viruses and spyware.

At this point my mother came in, probably wanting to use AOL, she was addicted.. She asked me what I was doing, and I told her the computer wouldn't boot up.

Needless to say she wasn't too happy and began screaming at me. I ran outside and got on my bike and rode off. I ended up at the movie theater where the special edition of A New Hope was playing. I had already went to see it when it came out, but thought I might as well see it again. I watched half of it before deciding I should go home.

When I got back home I found my mom on AOL, as usual, and the computer was working fine.

What's AOHell? I never heard of it

The first major virus I remember getting was around 2008. I had the v9 demo of Blockland and I tried to pirate the full version (lol). I searched something like "Blockland full version download" and found myself at a website that just had "Blockland.exe" in bold blue text with a thin border around it (very legit). I download it and ran it.

A command prompt-looking thing came up and said "1 file(s) copied so far... 2 file(s) copied so far...". This can't be good. My computer's background changes to a blue background that said something like "Your computer has been infected!" The clock changes to military time with "VIRUS ALERT!" next to it. Panicking, I press the button on the power strip that my computer was plugged in to but it was too late: it was infected. I cried and told my mom. My parents sent it to a computer repair shop to get rid of the virus. It costed us stufflods of emone and I think it still had some virus on it or something.

Whenever I would get mad at my computer, I would either hit it (mouse, keyboard, screen, tower, whatever) or turn the switch on the power strip on and off very fast.

I was not very computer-savvy back then...

AOHell was the first of thousands of programs that manipulated AOL's interface.

a couple of years ago i had a teeny tiny hard drive and it was almost full and then i downloaded a file

omg this
i didn't know anything about computers and when i downloaded something it told me i had less than a meg left and i had to do something about it and i started freaking out lol

My computer is soo bad (I still have this outdated thing but getting a new computer on the 10th) that when I tried to play Left 4 Dead 2, it said I needed to update my graphics card. So I did, I tried again, and it worked for a while until a charger spawned and went for me. BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!!

oh god lol

The smallest harddrive space I've had left was on the aforementioned computer. It had like 3gb left.
