I'm pretty sure the whole point of defragmenting is to make HDD's work faster, and by that i mean arranging all the files so that the platter head has to physically move less space to get the information it needs. This guy is correct, however, your USB drive could be wearing out, it's what happened to mine and I had to get a new one.

He's right. Your installation of Windows is more than likely the problem here.
Does it occur on both computers? What are both of the computer's specifications?

Yes, it occurs on both computers. This is the only computer I use for a flashdrive though (Long story. Not a computer problem)

I'll get the laptop one when I can. It's like intel.

but i have never used windows 8 so i have no idea if the above is true

It's probably Windows 8. From what I've been hearing, Blockland and Windows 8 don't go too well together.

Would running it in windows 7 compatibility mode change anything? I don't know much about what compatibility mode actually changes, so this is just a suggestion.
