Mine takes less than 30 seconds to shut down and about a minute to get to the desktop fully functional using a stuffty IDE drive.

i just got the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2W00ZD1550
and the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233287

this loving harddrive man.

reads at 550mb
writes like 500

its so loving fast :D windows starts up in like 8 seconds lol.
i can be shooting in a bf4 server in about 20 seconds

I want a SSD man. They are loving radical.

A few minutes before posting this, the OS stopped responding. Numlock wouldn't toggle. Neither would capslock nor scroll lock. The mouse cursor wouldn't move and it just froze like that for ~6 seconds. I know this isn't normal but what's the worst that could happen?

Will doing a factory reset on my laptop make it faster?

It will if your problem is software related.

HDD finally came in the mail today! :D
WD Scorpio SATA 160GBs 3 Gb/s and got it for ~$21 USD.

Seems to be an OK hard drive; it's got a five star rating on Newegg, so that's good. Just hope you got the Black version, because the Blue version is much slower.

It's the black version. I was running out of diskspace so I went ahead and got what I could afford although this was around 2 weeks ago. Going to plug it in in a few.

Test results for this SATA:

IDE Drive

Didn't want to do the test for the floppy.

This is my SCSI drive? What the forget? Are you guys sure this program isn't bugged?

I purchased this SSD yesterday: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226424
My main computer is so slow these days because the 5400 RPM HDD is too slow at reading and writing data. Can't wait for this to come on Thursday! I think this SSD is part of the newer generation because of the low price / GB.

I think this SSD is part of the newer generation because or the low price / GB.
uhh, what does that have to do with anything

In other news, the new haswell refresh just hit:

oh wow they're getting cheaper.
my sluggish laptop drive is slowing it down. I had two it in RAID 0 and that was fine at 120mb/s, but my other drive failed so now things are slow and it makes me sad.

So I've been looking at gaming desktops and I would appreciate some opinions on this. All I have is $650 saved up so I'm trying to stay in the $500 range. I found these:
http://www.amazon.com/CyberpowerPC-Gamer-Ultra-GUA880-Desktop/dp/B0089KDCIU/ref=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_t

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D1KX2M4/ref=s9_psimh_gw_p147_d0_i2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-5&pf_rd_r=0WB3G41HBSX9HS8VAQ5D&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200422&pf_rd_i=507846

The reviews say the fans were really loud and new fans and/or a cooling master may need to be added to avoid shutdowns and overheating. I'm not even sure my parents would let me get one but it doesn't hurt to look around

Any ideas?

Bad CPU for your price range, plus horrible integrated graphics for gaming. Are you willing to home-build a computer?
It depends on the cost. Also I have never done it before so it may be difficult.

It's easy. Don't let it intimidate you. You just need to make sure all of the parts are compatible and plug them in. Each cable/connector has a different shape. You just need to know which goes where and that's it.
