That's my new build I'm thinking of. It got a bit more expensive because of the stuff to make it fit 8 drives but it'll last if I plan to add another 4 drives at some point so it's worth it.

If I'm stuffing 8 hard drives into a case, I would buy a case with more suitable airflow options for the drives such as larger in take fans situated on the front to cast air over the drives to dissipate heat.

I have an earlier version of this case and it does exactly this. Also space for up to 9 3.5" drives.
...I also paid a lot less for the earlier version one. You might need to look around if you want a non-ridiculous price.

People cram 6 drives in that without a problem and it only has 1 fan. The NZXT 210 has a bunch of fan mounts I can use if heat is really a problem. Also not all the disks will be spun up all the time so it's not that huge of a problem.

I'm not looking for a case that looks anything like that. I want something super simple with room for 8 3.5" drives, nothing more nothing less. This is also pretty much the cheapest option.

i'm asking if I need to

No, your good for another year or two. I mean, if you WANT to upgrade it, if you have a good enough psu you could always either switch out your 770 for 2 970s OR just add in another 770, but its not necessary.

I suppose its possible to contruct a laptop yourself?

As far as i know, not yet. There's a reason why when people ask for laptops nobody says "build it yourself".

Not much of a Computer Guru, but im pretty sure its just a regular computer drives and CPU compressed into a portable computer? If I am wrong, then laptops aren't really a good choice of construction at all costs.

which is better, my current one (this: http://www.asus.com/ca-en/Graphics_Cards/ENGTX560_DC2DI1GD5/ )
or this: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487028

and if it's better, what kind of performance boost can I expect to get

750 probably
The 560 is like 2 generations behind and I remember when I had mine, it was awful

Well, a laptop is pretty much a compressed computer with all the externals. Its a lot more intricate than a desktop. everything inside a laptop is much smaller, but that doesn't mean everything is crap, it just means you have to pay almost 2x the money for something equal in power to a good gaming rig.

not at all
in many cases the only replaceable components in a laptop are the ram in the hard drive, both of which are smaller than the "normal" counterparts

Correct; only the RAM, hard drive, and sometimes the wlan card are of a standard form factor. Everything else is usually custom-designed to fit in it. This lack of standardization for everything makes it impossible to really 'build' a laptop. The closest you might get to building one is finding a gutted chaise at a thrift shop or something and just replacing the big components to make it work.

IIRC, msi IS making a laptop that allows you to upgrade the video card too, along with making it easy to change the ram and storage.

Most gaming laptops fallible today do infact let you swap out the graphics card with a standard type of PCI-E.
