Lenovo is an excellent brand for gaming, and jesus loving christ Nick what laptop model do you have
Lenovo Ideapad Y580

you probably upgraded the stuff out of it

which basically means lenovo didn't do anything except give you the beginnings

bought for $1200, is now $840 for the 1080p model, plus extended warranty (price has significantly dropped since summer 2012).

in other words: eat stuff lol

You can't "Upgrade" anything on a laptop except for the RAM and HDD.

> Impossible

you could try cyberpowerpc/ibuypower, they aren't very reliable however

Not even this.

I'm sorry, but if you don't have the time to educate yourself on building a PC you won't be able to properly maintain a pre-build performance desktop, nor will you be able to afford it as easily either.

If you want a gaming desktop, build it. You can't go wrong.

I am interested in building one, except I have absolutely 0 knowledge of how to build a computer.

I'm afraid that once I order all the parts I will have no idea on what to do and it'll just be a giant waste of money.

Also, are all the part lists in the OP up to date?

Don't order anything until you do some googling and learn how to do it. Make sure you're confident first.

Yes, the parts in OP are semi-up-to-date (As of 5 months).

Well, I mean, there are Youtube videos and such of building computers, but I can't really learn without actually doing it. I've done quite a bit of research in terms of putting all the right pieces where they are supposed to go, but it's all really confusing, and if I'm going to be ordering a different case than in the video/tutorial, what's the point of the tutorial?!

Do you have a tower PC, preferably one that you aren't using?

Just looked around, found one about the size of a Xbox 360.

I couldn't get the side open completely without a screwdriver, but from what I could see it is just a big mess of wires plugged into stuff :C

also: the HDD for the $1200 model is discontinued, what do

Play around with it, take it apart and put it back together and see if it still works.

-snip-

did a system restore and it fixed it

Bump
so I just installed some small hard drive I found today, booted up my computer, and windows started to install the drivers for it (so it recognized it and all) then it said it was done, but I don't see it in my computer. Any help?

Open Disk Management
It depends from herein, but on any partition that is NTFS, FAT, or exFAT (you don't have to mount system reserved,) right click it, and Change Drive Letter and Paths
Assign it a drive letter using Add
If it's not NTFS, FAT, or exFAT, you're going to have to format it, or find a third-party driver that adds support for the file system type.
