Or just use the integrated graphics. I'm currently running my computer with Intel HD4000 graphics (GPU broke :c ) and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. It can run all Valve games without any problems, and it could even do Crysis on medium settings. Blockland has no shaders though :(

I have to admit, you can play some of the older Valve titles really well. I played Half Life 2 Episodes 1 and 2 flawlessly on an Intel GMA X3100 (256MB?) on a Macbook in bootcamp'd Windows-- mind forget for most people.

But really, its not ideal. If you want to play oldie titles well, why not pay for a high end card-- even if you get one from the lower end of that food chain.

He doesn't play games so it doesn't need a GPU.

I would look for something with a better intel CPU, like the i5-3570 so that the integrated gp is better (ivy bridge). For the OS, I would suggest win7 64 bit. There's really no downside to buying and installing your own os, but if the computer already comes with it you'll likely save a bit of money (win7 oem is about $100)

Also it's like $20 off right now. I don't actually know what the specs mean though. :I But the typing is fun.

I've got a situation I feel very stressed about
I want to get a portable gaming machine. I've had my eye on the new Razer Edge Pro for a few weeks now. All the info here

The other candidate is some sort of custom built laptop.

I hear that the battery on the Edge Pro isn't great but I also don't want to have to go through the hassle of custom building a whole friggin' laptop. The appeal of the Edge Pro is the ability to be able to play Skyrim, FTL etc. on my lunch breaks and I feel I'm restricted with laptop cause it would probably weigh much more than a tablet.
My budget is £800 - £900

What do you folk think?

Because a high end video card easily can cost more than the entire computer (300£) :P And what do you mean by "lower end of the food chain"? Wouldn't that be a low end card? Or are you speaking about a used one?
Speaking about that, why not buy a used, older generation video card?

Edit: the linked computer has a 300W power supply. He'd probably have to get a more powerful one if he wants a GPU.

for gaming, currently available on the market, that would be the GTX690

GTX 690 is $1000, top rated card right now.
GTX 680 is $430, pretty much the best card aside from the 690 right now.
GTX 670 is $380 and it's using the 680's motherboard and keplar architecture, so it's basically the same card for alot cheaper.
