I don't know what experience you have in the industry but I can tell you nobody is running Windows 98 anymore, most businesses now are partway through migrations from XP to 7. It depends on the organization, smaller ones probably switch faster.

Possibly a coincidence, the places I've worked at or passed through were reasonably large. Some of upper management and also the reception had 7 installed. Not yet seen anyone using XP or Vista. My insight is pretty small and subjective at the moment, but thats what I've noticed.

EDIT: Also I'm comparing CPUs. I have been using http://www.cpubenchmark.net 's chart. According to it, the AMD FX-8320 Vishera 3.5GHz 8-core is a lot better than all the i5's on the list.

Now the next thing above that I could afford would be the Intel Xeon E3-1230 V2 Ivy Bridge 3.3GHz quad core (reviews say its basically an i7 without integrated graphics). How good are these two CPUs and is this site actually accurate and trust-able?

Provided you don't have a side panel fan where the CPU is, it will fit.

I've used that benchmarking site before. It said my 6750m was better than a normal 6750.

is this site actually accurate and trust-able?
dont think so

use this instead

depends if the mobile one is GDDR5 and the desktop one was DDR3, because in that case, the mobile one is better

A good headset? Astro A40. A good wireless headset? I'll correct myself, it does exist - but not for cheap.

Sennheiser RS 220 - $599
Astro A40 Wireless $299

I have to corsair wireless one, it's great for what I'm doing. Which is pretty much only skype. Good mic quality and good voice quality. It is also one of the most comfortable headsets I've ever used which is a big deciding factor for me.

If you notice that is for only 1 benchmark.

i need a keyboard with a usb port on it, preferably from newegg, USB or PS/2 is ok.

Could anyone help me find some information about the CPU backplate that comes pre-attached to the Asrock 970 Extreme3 motherboard? I'd like to know what coolers it's actually compatible with and, if I need to, how to remove it

I decided to be prudent by factoring in the sale of my old computer into my budget for the new one. Protip: don't do this if you are impatient, I only just sold it this week and I originally listed it online before December last year.

Anyway my i5 3570 is in the mail and my RAM arrived today! Once the CPU gets here I can build it. :D:D

Here is the RAM, I purchased two 1x8GB Corsair XMS3 ram modules with (arguably unnecessary) XMS heat spreaders (dual channel, 1333mhz, 9-9-9-24, 1.65V). In total that is 16GB of ram.

I use GM:S and often have a number of audio editors, image editors (with many massive files), while running the game on top of the IDE which seems to eat lots of memory. I also want to setup an OSX virtual machine to try and steamline an experimental process with Xcode, blah blah. Still more RAM than one might need.

Perhaps more importantly, my mini-itx motherboard (Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe) takes 16GB ram maximum and I feel it strange to not just max it out when I can. And of course, seeing how my first ever computer had 256MB ram, there is something wonderfully appealing to my younger child self to have 62x the amount I had back then bahaha.

Can I still find Intel Quad Core CPUs that support LGA775? There are some on Amazon, ebay, etc, but not that much.

I'm looking for at least 2.9GHz

I googled and see a lot of people suggesting the Q9550 or Q9650.

please help :(
