That site is bullstuff, can't find anywhere where they actually explain what "free upgrade" means

What they mean is some video cards will allow you to get to a different model, ex:

I still need to find a good laptop in canada for around 350-450

Oh, so only if you're putting together an entire build

Is this GPU good? I'm trying to lower the price on the rig again so my dad quits trying to get me a pre-built dell..

Also I need to know if that GPU will work with a DVI to VGA adapter.

If you're trying to look at specific parts for details I wouldn't use partpicker

I was going through those and found this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129232

Is that a good cheap card? I noticed that its shipping is also much lower than the others.

It's just not a major brand, the card is probably fine. I would go with the sapphire though, it's the same price + a little higher shipping if you do the rebate

I'm not doing any rebates due to the fact I don't want to risk losing a warranty. (from what I heard a send-in-rebate isn't a good idea)

But overall its a good choice right? With it I managed to be a good ways under budget. (around $13-14)

Hey all,

I'm looking to do my first build that I'll be doing myself, and I've put together a list of parts... Could y'all just look it over and make sure I haven't missed/overlooked anything? Or possibly recommend replacements? I dunno. Here's the parts list:

CPU- FX 8320
CPU Cooler- Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO (Is this necessary if I'm not going to overclock?)
RAM- G.SKILL Ripjaws 8GB (2 x 4GB)
GPU- Saphirre Radeon HD 7970
Motherboard- ASUS M5A97
HDD- Western Digital WD Blue 1TB
Case- Apevia X-Trooper RED
DVD Drive- Black SATA 24X DVD Burner (Might remove)
PSU- Corsair TX650

By the way, my budget is 800$
Thanks!

That cooler will be a good idea to have to keep it cool when the room you're in is warm/hot. Unless you keep the room constantly cool than I'd suggest getting the cooler.

Uhh, not unless you live in an oven. I would just hold off on the cooler. If you don't plan to overclock, there's no use for it and if you end up wanting it it's easy to order when you actually do.

As for your build, do you really need an 8-core cpu? It's good for futureproofing but if you don't do much for productivity (as in, videos, encoding, and other multithreaded applications) you really won't notice much of a difference

Well, the case does have like 5 fans.

I also record and edit audio, video and photos. I could probably take a step down on the CPU, i guess.

yeah, you really wont be needing a separate cooler

Well multiple cores is actually extremely useful for video work. AMD stuff has pretty good value if you have a use for it, so I would go for it. Skip the cooler though
