Cant really use anything less then a "x50" model for legit gaming.
750 or 950s and the like, are the true bottom of the lines in any practical sense.

And if power is limited. Get the one of the tiny 750ti models that dosnt require power pins at all.

jesus christ i feel like a dumbass around you guys
ah well, thanks.

Well for the heatsink we actually need to know the model of the motherboard, not all heatsinks fit on the same motherboards
Here's my motherboard: Dell XPS 8500 Vostro 470 Socket LGA1155

A Cooler Master Hyper 212 or TX3 should fit there since they include the brackets for LGA1155 and it should clear without blocking the ram.

The only thing you have to worry about now is if the Hyper 212 will fit in the case or if you need to go with the smaller TX3, they pretty tall maybe you would be better off getting a better case to improve airflow if your using the stop one, then get a heatsink.

Don't forget what I said about OEMs using custom cooler mounts on motherboards regardless of what socket they are. The one I mentioned in my last post has an LGA-775 mounting arrangement that requires screws instead of push-pins, basically making almost any third-party cooler completely incompatible.

What I'm saying is make sure before you go buying a cooler that might not fit even if it's for the same socket. There are a lot of people on the DELL product forums for example who know way too much about modding and upgrading DELL prebuilts; they helped me back in the day when said PC was my primary PC and I wanted to upgrade it, managed to find a cooler that was compatible with the mount. Unfortunately I broke it a while back so I can't use it anymore.

if you can afford either one why would you get a worse one even if getting the better one means waiting a few weeks or so?

I think you're gonna need to elaborate on that...

deals go away after christmas, money might even go away too

I don't think that discounts are the reason he's considering an i7. and if he was planning on getting one, he would not spend the money that he was keeping for it...

yeah i guess so

wait and get the i7, you wont regret it

For consumer-level video editing 8 threads is the only way to go

OK, so my computer doesn't restart automatically. If I choose restart, it shuts down, I can hear the sound of it restarting (fans speed up momentarily), but nothing ever happens on the display. This happened on Windows 8.1 and my fresh install of Windows 10.

Any ideas?

Thanks to ZERØ, I'm now looking into these:
Potential case fan
Very likely new CPU fan/heatsink

Any thoughts?
