Well that makes sense.

It's also probably because Lenovo puts 5400 RPM drives into their gaming laptops because reasons, I would recommend just upgrading your HDD.
which kind out of these (or others) do you suggest? i don't need one that big, just 250 or so gigabytes

Pisses me off when people make statements about things they know nothing about.

Imo the only reason to get a soundcard is if you want to use a 500 dollar and up sound system and want better control over settings than what most motherboards offer.

Also the Hue+ I want but I refuse to buy from NZXT direct ever again. Last time 2 years ago I bought the Hue and it took 2 and a half weeks of business day processing time before I contacted them. They responded it will be a week or two more due to "inventory", I demanded my money back and got it from Microcenter that same night a half hour from my house.

To me I don't hate their products but as a company NZXT can go forget themselves with a stick wrapped in sandpaper.

Like I said before, the Hard Drive (HDD) needs to be upgraded, I did the same thing with my Y500 because it got unbearable eventually.

I would recommend getting higher than 250 GB especially since I know you draw, it will fill your storage quickly if you save locally or use Photoshop/Illustrator (Scratch-disks are a burden), if not and you really want low storage but fast speed.

Best bang for your buck, I put one between my Mac Pro and my Y500 and it works perfect, I own 4 total of the 850 Evo's and they work wonders

Otherwise a better solution would be to get a much faster better HDD

I have one of these too, just haven't installed it to my Y500 yet, it'll do some vast improvements though.

TL;DR Get a SSD would be my first recommendation for best results, otherwise a HDD works.  Also if you go SSD, get larger than 250 GB is a must IMO, SSD's come in many brands and Samsung isn't the only one you should look at.

ye but they have that smart cache technology. speeds = off the charts

Is there a way to check if my CPU temperatures are correct without doing the old fashioned cop-a-feel? I ran my 4690k (not overclocked) and Hyper 212 Evo through cinebench and the temperatures went from 34C to 39C. If anything, I've never seen the temperatures go past 45C, yet I can find people online getting it as hot as 75C with the same cooler.

I ask because my motherboard temperature sensors don't work (105 degrees after a cold boot apparently) and am curious if that would botch CPU temps in any way.

5 minutes later it's at 32. I have a hard time believing my CPU is only a few degrees warmer than my room.

I just find it a bit strange that it never goes above 45 even at full load.

What do with a spare 2.5" 5400RPM 380Gb HDD?
I still have some old stuff on it (but I jacked it from my laptop thats been broken for like 2 years so the data on it wont be really usefull)

ill take it

I need an external hard drive,
