They picket some poor sod's funeral, someone can't take it and flips out and attacks them, they sue, get a bunch of money from a settlement or whatever, rinse repeat. It's how they make their money. First off that's pure speculation, and incorrect at that. They're religious radicals, you can't argue that they aren't because it's so obvious that they are. Second, hate crimes are, well, crimes. So, no, they are not within their rights.

A hate crime is any crime motivated by membership in a social group. Loitering is a crime, loitering while hating gays is a worse crime. The entire point of the anti-WBC movement is to classify them as a hate group so that they will be committing crimes and can be taken down.
