Most mature media that isn't raw research is 17+ in America. R rated movies, NC17 movies, M rated games, all 17+.

Are there any movies that are actually NC17? I don't think I've ever seen one in my life.

NC17 and X rated movies cannot be sold at stores or played in movie theaters, but they do exist.

Odd but I guess it is to be expected, I always thought it seemed silly before when I first found out that PG13 is a proper age barrier over there when PG is what toddlers watch here.
Life would be so much easier if the world just went by one set of guidelines, though I guess that would be too boring.

Pretty sure they can't. I've never seen one and I vaguely remember a report someone did in one of my classes where they brown townyzed how the NC-17 rating was essentially a death sentence for a movie because they get no publicity and don't get shown in theaters. I've never seen NC-17 movies in stores, either. I'm unsure of legislature concerning sale of NC-17 movies though.
