Author Topic: Sony trying to ban used games.  (Read 5556 times)

Most games are being filled with DLC nowadays so the devs are already making loads from that. I could see this being fine if there wasn't any DLC at all that they charge absurd amounts of money for, but not for used games. I should be able to loan my game/borrow a friend's game and be able to play it normally and try it out. If I want to buy it I can buy it with knowledge of whether I'll actually like it/it's online mode or not. It's like how game designers aren't even making demos anymore. You have no idea whether you'll actually like what the game is about if you just go into the store and buy it.

I sure hope sony doesn't go through with this.

Lord Tony does actually have a very good point here.
a whole reason to own a console as opposed to a PC is that you can share games with people, and also for affordability, which comes from being able to buy used games
also this would make renting the games pointless and Gamefly wouldn't be able to cater to PS3 users

on the bright side, I don't own a PS3

If anything it would be for the PS4 but most likely sony is just making patents in case they need them for the future.

The new marketing model these days is to release a half-assed game and sell people features that should have been default. Anyone who defends companies like EA don't come crying back to the people who opposed them when you find out you have to pay 20$ to unlock the options so you can change your resolution.

The problem is that Publishers are geared toward produceing quanity and milking their products till they run dry. The big Publishers are run by a board of directors which are just very rich investors(yes I am demonizing the rich in this case), they decide what is best for the company. So lets look at a company like Activision. They know that people like Call of Duty, so rather taking risks with the franchise that could bring changes that people don't want to they avoid modifing the formula as much as possible. So they make a game similiar to their previous succesful title which many deadbeats will buy. Then get an advertising group to get together and create a comerical with people like FPSRussia and Robert Downey Jr to get people more interested. The Board of Directors does not like to loose money, so they are going to do whatever it takes to make money. Like ignoring the consumers and fanbase, telling the developers what the to do, shutting out all creative ideas in favor of ones of making money, and bribeing websites like ign for high ratings.

So how do you beat the almighty investors? Well you can create a massive smear campaign which invovles mass amounts of letters and emails, people getting togeter to talk about how they don't like what the company has been doing. Sound difficult? Well all you really to do is simply vote with your dollar, if enough people do not buy a product like Call of Duty then the directors are going to think "Gee this is making us money, we better look other ways to capitalize". So take it a step further and boycott the company and hope they loose money to the point where they go out of buisness or to a point where they are willing to listen to the consumer. Remember consumers make or break the market and feed the investor, so spend smart and keep them in check.

The way I see it, in a couple of years sony will leave the Gaming Business, and then some random company will join it.

I think they started going downhill after the PS2, With PSMove being a ripoff of the Wii, Vita being a failure due to the fact they chose ATNT, don't get me wrong the Vita is a great Handheld but they really forgeted up when they choose AT&T.

And now this....well I just don't know any more.

I guess Valve will Replace Sony with their "Steam Box"

Their games are the only thing keeping them from going bankrupt. It's the horribly selling tv division they need to remove.

PS move was patented before the wii.

The VITA is a gaming device, not a phone. Who cares if it's ATNT?

AT&T is an ISP, not just a phone company
people who want internet access when not at home care

Back in my day handheld devices didn't have internet.

that's bc dinosaurs didn't have any use for the internet

When you buy a piece of software, you buy a license. In most cases these licenses are non-transferable. Illegal transferring is the equivalent of piracy. Lord Tony is correct.
Now I realize this is correct, but this really isn't what game companies want to be doing.
They're going to push more uses to right out pirate to try and circumvent these issues.

The Vita's ISP being only AT&T is the whole reason I returned mine and got more stuff for my 3DS instead.
If they would of allowed to give you a choice of ISP then I would have loved that thing.

But Sony is stubborn and they had to choose the worst ISP ever.
