Of course, nobody reads my post.

Seriously guys, all they really may be doing is /helping/ us. They may patent it to keep it out of the hands of people who would abuse it. I doubt they're going to use it, Sony is generally a pretty nice company.

I wonder if anyone realizes that this already happened to PC games like forever ago.
In the Europe Union it is required by law that customers have the right to sell digital software back.

pretty much everyone buys used games, so if sony succeeds in this, they loose A LOT of profit.

fyi: devs nor publishers get profits from used games

They aren't worth much. They just want people to spend 30-60 bucks rather than 15-25 dollars.

meaning lots of video game companies go bankrupt.

Used game stores have been around forever and no one went out of buisness then. You are just a corporate sock puppet.

"VCR's are ruining the movie buisness!"
yeah

Just like how cassetes ruined the music industry.

so wait, the patented it, but realized that is a huge mistake, so they're not going to use it? If you think about it that's is kind of a positive thing

They won't. But it is true though, the resale of games and the piracy combined makes the devs lose a lot of money. But that's how Free Enterprise works. (Minus the piracy part. No pirating kids)

All in all, the business can't make all the profit from a single game, that's why you have to turn out newer and different games consistently. That's what makes a company. Putting a ban on resale would discourage trading, and a healthy market.

You guys remember those vintage blue-rays? I found my old blue-ray player the other day. The quality is terrible compared to what we have now. It's a shame what they did to the movie business. I'm just glad Apple patented spinning discs and lasers.

Remember when Sony wanted to interrupt gameplay with comericials?
