sticking to my vita until i see some gameplay and the like.

How about pc games stay on pcs. The whole trying to emulate a console thing is stupid.

"Oh wow this is really cool!"

Project Shield also supports PCs running Nvidia’s GeForce GTX which will allow players to access games downloaded from Steam such as Assassin’s Creed III, Battlefield 3, Borderlands 2, Skyrim, and more. You can seamlessly play your favorite PC games right on your couch with great graphics and ultra low latency.
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Edit: In a nutshell it's a phone with a controller attached too it, (Which has been done before) the only new thing is a stuffty screen viewer a la Onlive.

This is loving stuffty this is not cool at all.

Am I the only one who has absolutely no interest, nor faith, in companies trying to create the next big console to distract from PC gaming?

I guess its because I don't ever take gaming devices with me (sometimes play games on my smartphone of course).

PC gaming is always superior imo.

this isn't a loving console you forgets this is a handheld streaming device forget please read it's a pretty big leap in ideas

ew it just streams? only interested if it lets us stream from our own PCs ..

NVIDIA’s Project Shield: an Android-based handheld with Steam Big Picture streaming

The tech world has gotten itself into a lather over the bombardment of announcements coming out of Consumer Electronics Show. Here’s one that’s relevant to us, though: NVIDIA’s Project Shield. While it may look like an HD screen bolted to a parody of an Xbox controller, the Android powered device is also capable of streaming your PC game library.

Powered by the also-announced Tegra 4 mobile chip, Shield promises a full Android gaming experience. That may sound a bit rubbish, especially if, like me, your Android device is almost exclusively a platform for running Canabalt. Still, it means the handheld will be able to play the upcoming Hawken Android, as well as the newly announced ArmA Tactics, a turn-based ArmA for tablet devices.

But perhaps the most interesting aspect of Shield is its ability to hook into Steam for local network streaming through Big Picture mode. NVIDIA’s CEO, Jen-Hsun Huang, showed off the streaming during the presentation, playing Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Assassin’s Creed 3 with reportedly little to no lag. The downside is it requires a Kepler-based graphics card inside your rig, meaning you’ll need a GTX 650 or better to push pixels towards the device.

Project Shield offers a 1280×720 screen, but can output to a standard 4k TV. It’s expected for release in “Q2″, but there’s currently no word on pricing. In the meantime, you can see the Shield’s website for details.

A shiny new PC-playing toy. Any takers?

tl;dr: if you have a GTX650 or better GPU, you will now be able to drop the game on your PC, pick up your controller, take a stuff and continue playing AC3 on the toilet

the limiting capabilities here are obviously your own computer and the fact that it requires a local network connection (i.e. you can't be in your office and play your games from your home computer, it has to be within the immediate LAN)

only interested if it lets us stream from our own PCs ..
that's what it does. that's what it says it does. that's what they said it does.

It allows you to stream your games from your computer with low latency, better than onlive, i'm guessing. Play ANY GAMES your computer can play from ANYWHERE in your home. And probably some other stuff out of home I guess.

Exactly, this isn't a console for your living room you dumb twats, the point of it is to take it anywhere you go, as a HANDHELD CONSOLE.

Don't think Onlive, think Wii U.

the link in the OP doesn't clarify any of this. but thank you nickelboob for a link that does.

In my link it links you to NVIDIA's website that tells you more. If you even bothered to read it it says at the bottom of the article, "Click here to find out more"
