Author Topic: Think I just got a virus...  (Read 2242 times)

I think I just got a virus on my computer. When I start it, I get a fullscreen window which I can't exit, saying my computer is locked due to a crime. Im supposed to pay 100 euros to unlock my computer using some weird cash card thingy i've never heard of. There was also a list of possible crimes...one being terrorism...Dafuq? Since when going to BL forums and Facebook has been terrorism? Anyway, if anyone knows about this, would be cool if you could help...

Task manager? :o
Doesn't work...neither does rebooting.

Also, this appeared a moment after downloading one of Gcats add-ons from mediafire...

Have you got a windows install disc?

In regards to the poll, do not pay at all, whatsoever.

If you end up giving any sort of bank-access to any thing you don't know or can't trust then you'll probably end up accidentally giving them access to your bank account.

I think it's somewhere...
But it's not that bad, because im getting a new computer this month.

Edit: i noticed quite a few suspicious things in the window:
1. It says I should pay within 48 hours, but every time I reopen my computer, the timer resets.

2. The only payment methods are called "Ukash" and "Paysafe card".

3. TYPOS EVERYWHERE!

Computers can't catch diseases. ._.

Just read from the news, that this IS indeed a virus, a Ransomware to be exact...Paying does not remove the lock. There WERE instructions on how to close it, but the only problem is, that i can't open taskmanager...

leave the computer on for 48 hours?

does it say GEMA in a corner?

Typical ransomware. Google around.

Find the installation folder and delete it with CMD?

stuff sucks, I lost a lot of stuff when my first laptop got a virus. Ended up losing all my old add-ons when it wiped the hdd clean.

You got ransomware. Boot in safe mode.

I wonder where you got this from

It is ransomeware, don't even question that.
Boot in to safe mode and run a Malwarebytes scan.
