Basically, the new healthcare mandates force employers to offer employees healthcare who work over 30 hours a week. This Wendy's owner can't pay that so he reduced everyone's hours to 28 a week.

I don't think its a matter of being cheap, sometimes these crazy things called "operating costs" and "supplies" need to be met before paying labor.

Not to mention the franchise fees.

He could afford to pay 50+ full time workers, but now with the healthcare mandate, he has to cut everyone to 28 hours? Makes perfect sense.

Government is so loving stupid any attempt to help the poor will always just screw the poor lol. Raise the minimum wage companies raise the cost of their products, make companies pay more taxes they fire employees to keep profits the same, make them give benefits to full time employees they will make all employees part time. THe company I work for already lays everyone off 1 month out of the year to consider them part time to get away with not giving them benefits. Companies will not take a loss they will always just pass the buck back to the poor and the poor get forgeted harder than they were previously.

So let's say they were all working the standard 40 hour weeks, government tries to give them healthcare, now they are getting 28 hours a week. The government effectively just made it so those people will have to get a 2nd job or a new job as no one lives off of 28 hours a week at presumably minimum wage. Also yes he definitely COULD afford it but bottom line is he can screw all his employees and he comes out ahead and they all suffer and there's no consequences for him so he does it.
