Author Topic: Can't host as of today.  (Read 1335 times)

My server shows up on the list, but nobody can join. I can join through LAN.

Here are console and launcher logs from a dedicated server on a fresh install. Connections were attempted while the server was up (no indication of this).

This actually happened to me as well, I checked my ports to see if they have changed but they haven't.

Initializing UPnP...

UPnP Discovery Failed

Please make sure that UPnP is enabled on your router and that your computer's firewall is not blocking UPnP. Then restart your router by unplugging it, waiting 10 seconds, and plugging it back in.

I can't access the router.

That's a problem. Why not?

I'm at a college. I don't know where the router is, and even if I could access it, it's probably protected.

They were having a network problem the past few days, and then they fixed it, and I'm afraid they might have disabled upnp along the way.

It's pretty unlikely a college would want you hosting servers on their internet so chances are they disabled UPnP to prevent that.

You could always try asking your dorm manager to enable UPnP for you.

the same thing is happening to me. yesterday i could host with no problems, three people joined my server. but today i was told by at least 3 guys that my server wasn't working.

also i couldn't join any servers that had a ping of ---

This means that the server is dead. You can never join servers like that.

For your hosting problem, a router restart might help.

UPnP was not modified during my troubleshooting. However, UPnP itself does not work on our network because we use business-class equipment that does not respond to UPnP requests.  UPnP is fine for home users, but it’s an extreme security risk on business networks.

So uh, I guess UPnP was never enabled.

What if UDP port 28000 was opened?

ok i'm hosting right now and someone just joined, when looking up the server in the list i can see it with --- ping and in LAN it says 31 ping.

i guess the problem disappeared?

(also i enabled upnp so maybe that was the problem)

Do you have LAN wall outlets? If so would connecting that lan cable with a router and enable UPnP work or no?

I don't have my own router. That's a little too much money/trouble for fixing a problem that may magically unfix itself the way it magically worked before.

Nothing changed that affects network security, so I’m not sure why it would have stopped working all of a sudden.  UPnP shouldn’t have ever worked, either, so I’m not sure how it got you on before.
