Author Topic: Need help with wireless modem  (Read 359 times)

So the desktop I built after Christmas is really really nice for it's price, which was like $420 (blaze it) gets 320 FPS stable in Minecraft, and Fraps refuses to drop below 200FPS while monitoring Blockland. I can even run max shaders with acceptable framerate :D

The noe problem I have is the stuffty internet connection. I have to use a crap mini USB modem, and its terrible. Ive ordered a new modem-router so thats already a step up, but I know it wont be enough.

Is there any way to get a better wireless internet connection? Direct connection isnt an option for me.

Your location is the biggest limiter of wireless speed. Wireless is actually pretty fast, just not as fast as wired. Upgrading your network card will improve the speed a bit, maybe providing you with a stronger connection, but the two biggest limiters are your location in relation to the wireless transmitter and the network speed itself. It's entirely possible you just have a stuffty connection to your ISP. There's a cool thing called Powerline Networking you can look into if you want, it's pretty cheap and solves 99% of "can't direct connect" situations.

i actually moved from a wireless network adapter to a powerline network adapter and it's tops

Its not the ISP, even though they dont provide me with good internet. I get acceptable internet gameplay/connection on my laptops, but the desktop's USB modem is stuff. It did not come with a wireless card, would that help?
