At my school they allocate say 5 snow days into the schedule and if we go past that then we take off days from spring break/summer vacation/etc.

it's not cruel, it's state-mandated. you will receive x number of days of schooling, no matter what.

Happened during the "second winter break" in January-ish 2010 when we had a stuffload of snow.  No one gave a forget.
