Fire glass produces more heat than real wood, and also is environmentally friendly. There is no smoke, it’s odorless and doesn’t produce ash. You are able to stay toasty warm without cutting down trees and the specially formulated glass crystals give off no toxic deposit.

Yep, this actually exists.

These have been around for years...

Fire glass is a product which is designed to be used in gas fireplaces to mask the housing of the gas jets and to help reflect light and heat.
"Environmentally Friendly."  Not unless you consider the byproduct, Carbon Monoxide, environmentally friendly.

Does it go bad or can you just use it forever?

By go bad, I mean after using it 100 times, does it not light anymore?

Seems to be too cheap for that not to be the case.

Fire glass will not burn, melt or discolor. It will not pop, create soot, ash or smoke either. The glass will last forever when left within the fireplace. Like all glass products there is a risk of breaking pieces due to mishandling or during transport. When one is re-installing the product after moving there may be some glass sediment or broken pieces at the bottom of your container.

At first I thought the glass itself was fuel.
Then I realized it wasn't.
I'm dissapointed.

Didn't it say it doesn't produce toxic stuff? :s

carbon monoxide is a naturally occurring gas.

carbon monoxide is a naturally occurring gas.
so is carbon dioxide

My friend has one of these.

It's nothing special really. It's just a propane burner under a bunch of little glass bits. It does look pretty cool though.

dihydrogen monoxide is also really dangerous, but yet we still use it...
example: anything that consumes it dies
it accelerates the rate of corrosion in metals
it wears away natural structures
inhalation can be deadly
may cause severe burns
is used as a flame handicapant
