Author Topic: I had 40 GB remaining on my hard drive and now I have 19? Wat  (Read 1327 times)

I didn't download anything new (besides Wurm, but that's not even a gig.)

I don't know what to do, I just uninstalled things I don't use anymore like

Source Engine SDK

Unreal  Engine

-

Still says I have 19 GB even after uninstalling those.

I really want to install Chivalry medieval warfare :( (it's 3GB I know, but I want this fixed first.)

This might be far-fetched but check for malware maybe.

Defragment your disk.

Edit: Serously this is most likely your problem and if you have never defraged then you will most likely gain a forget ton of space here is an example:

I hadn't done one for a while

Edit2: After that run Ccleaner.

Clean out all temporary stuffs.

WinDirStat. get it. it scans your PC and shows you which folders/files are taking up the most space.

clear out desktop/downloads folder

If you're going to defrag, while you're at it set your DEFAULT WINDOWS defrager to a schedule to do it every week or so.

buy a bigger harddrive lol?

also in the odd chance that your hard drive is actually an SSD don't ever defrag it
/justsaying

what even happens if you defrag an SSD? Does it break?

Are you stupid?

No one will mistake a SSD for a HDD. He would have noticed a incredibly fast boot time. And for buy a bigger HDD, he said something happened, not he used it all up.

Certain sectors can only be written so many times before it becomes corrupted. SSDs are designed to write to different sectors all the time to extend overall life. Defragmenting it puts it all in one sector, which would drastically reduce it's life.

Oh jeez I'm happy I now know this before messing with SSD's.

Also is it possible for Windows 7 to glitch?

If so, I might restart my laptop.

You don't defrag it because it doesn't frag

Says the one with the worst suggestion.

But ya, Keep deleting stuff and defragging the HDD. Should start to give you more space.

Also, You said windows just randomly went from 40GB to 19GB? Try a restart, maybe windows just glitched.
