Author Topic: I had 40 GB remaining on my hard drive and now I have 19? Wat  (Read 1314 times)

Nope! Still not working

21 GB still.

I defraged using both Norton 360 and the default windows thingymagig.

I also used Ccleaner

I deleted bunches of crap :(

and I restarted my laptop

also would Windows update have anything to do with this?

chances are what you're deleting is small

or your hard drive could be dieing

unfinished torrents reserve the space even before the download starts. and it counts as used HD space.
or other downloading programs may do similar things.

This might be far-fetched but check for malware maybe.
I don't think there is such virus that messes up your hard-drive space. At least not from what I've heard of.

Also this.

But ya, Keep deleting stuff and defragging the HDD. Should start to give you more space.
You can only defrag so much until you will start loving up your hard-drive. Defragging one time after another is not recommended.

and whats with everyone shouting to run the defragging.

running a defrag will not add more space, it has nothing to do with hd space...

I was just about to bring this up. All defragmentation does is just arrange your files so they load faster thus leading to a faster hard-drive.

Also, You said windows just randomly went from 40GB to 19GB? Try a restart, maybe windows just glitched.

congratulations on
the worst suggestion.

Wait a second, I think this has actually been like this ever since I downloaded the source engine.

I just deleted it too and the HD space is still 21GB..

The source engine is downloaded through steam, is there a possible way steam didn't uninstall it properly?

Are you stupid?

No one will mistake a SSD for a HDD. He would have noticed a incredibly fast boot time. And for buy a bigger HDD, he said something happened, not he used it all up.
I don't loving know if I have an SSD or an HDD, and I've loving bought some of my computers parts and put them in myself.

I don't think the source engine size is that big. Probably less than 500MB

Good to know. I'll be using that for future references.

it's obvious that some secret spyware has installed programs on your computer without you knowing it.

yeah wtf was with everyone saying defragging clears up more space on your HDD
defragging just re-organizes your files and puts them in more efficient places, basically...
