Author Topic: TDM Rant 2 - Return of the Buttclench  (Read 1360 times)

actually because knife tdms often lack anything aside from the platforms the brick count is usually fine

I'm not saying the brickcount is high and that it causes lag, I'm saying that their method is literally spam, and effortless. Yet, people still love these buttsucking servers.

TDMs should have only one of each type of weapon, i.e shotgun+Assault Rifle+sniper+grenade+idunno, medpack maybe? Instead of having many different weapons which are all the same type. All assault rifle servers are boring, and some rifles are always better than others. Just having one of each category is fine for any TDM, and more are unnecessary.
Also, I hate shops.

What about in, per se, a death race? Is using a shop still wrong then?

yes.

there is no tdm structure beyond possibly team-wide points sharing (in which ratioining points, spent when you buy weapons) would work out

for deathraces, just let players select their weapons normally. don't have them stress over fighting superiorly-armed opponents even if they do have a fighting chance with whatever weapon you start them off with

admittedly the same goes for normal dms as well

I completely argee with op, Why can't we all go back to CLASS BASED TDMs?

But then again the point system is what adds re-playability of the server and has players coming back for more.
IF we went back to reseting points every round or buying a (upgraded) gun only lasts till you die, players need to be good to re-earn that weapon.

I loving hate TDM's with shops. It's a loving waste of time. I want to get straight in the game, not bullstuff around picking my weapons.

Also the starter weapon they choose for you is complete stuff and you can't kill anyone with it because others have OP weapons and will kill you in 1 hit.

All TDM's with shops need to burn in hell. I absolutely despise them. When I see a good TDM but it has shop I just want to rip my balls off.

Also gotta love it when the shops they have, have fifty variations of MPK909090whatever onward to oblivion forcing you to cycle through them all to find out what type of gun they are.

Shame everyone who agrees with the OP aren't the ones actually hosting these kinds of TDM's.

Honestly when people make these threads, they don't really give great fixes. The idea behind the shop is variety. What about TF2? Is that a bad game because that's a shooter with a shop with different weapons?

TF2 has their weapons balanced, however. They are suited to different playstyles, with maybe a bit more ROF and damage, but lower ammo, or maybe more knockback but less damage, etc.

My suggestion for fixing this issue is this: Go to class-based TDMs with a wide variety of balanced-out classes that can suit playstyles. I'm still working on figuring out a set of T+T-centric weapons that are used, and then I might be able to do the same with other weapon packs. I would actually host it, but I'm stuff out of money and don't have a good computer.

If you're gonna make a shop them make it just have vanity like hats, colours of stuff and maybe coloured chat to show that you've stayed on the server and played it long enough. Giving them a better weapon means giving them an advantage which new players will not be able to overcome.

Instead of having credits, have stuff like achievments.

Buffs and randomized weapons is a good combo, and is the way TDMs should be. Sadly nobody really makes any.

a good fix, since most tdm/dm/car racing things justify the shop with "freedom to choose", would be to make it so you are able to pick a primary and then you are setplayertransform'd to another room to pick a secondary and it goes on.

this keeps the "creativity" aspect of shop based games while allowing all players to be on the same level

and who said anyone approved of the TF2 shop anyway
