Author Topic: Romeo and Juliet isn't all that romantic really.  (Read 2987 times)

I'll probably have to do that for tomorrow lol.
I suggest you do, the books that feature the translation are very well done. They can also help you understand the language.

Alas poor Yorrick! I knew him well Horatio!

I thought some of the jokes in R&J were pretty damn good, even though half the class didn't even catch them. IE calling Tybalt a rat-catcher.

I like Shakespeare, especially the way he writes. There was so much emotion in characters at times. We really didn't discuss Romeo and Juliet that much when I read it for class, which is probably why I don't really care for it. I am a huge fan of Julius Caesar though. I really have to get around to reading more of his works.

if shakespeare was so good at comedy then how come family guy is so much funnier???

At school I was forced to watch a version of Romeo and Juliet where they're gangsters with guns shooting up the local neighbour hood and doing drugs and stuff
It was terrible

If you mean the modern made movie, that was hilarious.

why can it not be romantic and tragic exactly

well, what I'm saying, basically, is that most people say its wonderful, and romantic, and whatnot, but it really wasn't that.. wonderful.

probably saying that because they read/watched something that butchered the story to make it all dumb
