It would have been nice if they added an "I don't use a tablet please don't make me use this giant tile garbage" option.
I think they did.

I remember reading you could change it so it looked like W7 somewhere in the control panel.

i use windows 8 and i love it. It works the same way as windows 7 but you can have apps and stuff. Also makes booting super fast. Takes me 7 seconds to boot my pc up with windows 8.

when threads like this come up people circlejerk about how it's loving horrible, yet these people do not use windows 8 (mostly). It's definately an upgrade. I use classic shell to give me a start button. People seem to be whiny bitches over losing a start button which can be easily replaced, but this allows you to get mobile apps which work fine on desktops

tl;dr windows 8 is fine, circlejerking always happens; go forget yourself

From my experiences, it's very fast to boot, but terribly slow to log in.

Also, there are a ton more processes on start than previous versions if I remember. But the new task manager is amazing.

windows 8 had some strange cpu spikes for me, and i really don't want to go back to it. i'm really happy with 7 and i'll stay on it as long as i can.

my opinion on 8 : it's good, i just like to use 7 more.

It would be called steam os and have only one purpose:

Play games.
i would rape the download button

Win8 is excellent if you have some sort of touch interface
Otherwise it is kinda awkward to use half the time

You might as well go with the new OS now because a couple years from now you will be behind the everything staying with win 7
