Has anyone read A Rasin in the Sun?

I have work on the book, and one question it ask isn't really working for me. It asks what is meant by Mama returning for her plant at the end of the book, but I'm in conflict on what the meaning could be, so I need a second opinion. Reading the play, I thought she was leaving it on purpose because they didn't need anymore growth or something. But in the movie we were shown, she seems to return happily, and it is suggested it is 'hope.' So I'm not sure which to even think. Would anyone be able to enlighten me? I don't need you doing the work for me, I just need a more solid thought on what was going on. Like when you're in class, and another student speaks up to the teacher on the subject of a book.

Just in case I wrote that wrong, I'm saying I don't understand exactly what is meant, and I just need a second opinion on what went on at the end. Because my thought differs greatly from what seems to be implied elsewhere, so I might have just not caught on or something. If someone knows better what happened, it'd be helpful to hear.

... So I read the book, all the acts. Actually a few times over the years for different classes. I'm just very uncertain of the meaning behind the ending.

Edit: Reading over the ending again, I'm sure it isn't matched. The play seems to talk as if she's scared to leave, purposefully leaves the plant, but goes back to get it on second, nervous thought. The movie makes it out as though she almost forgot it and is glad to bring it along. We're meant to take the representations for deep thought, even if they are imperfect, so this is a real conflict. I can't tell what to think, because maybe I'm interpreting the text wrong. Any ideas?

As I said, my teacher literally, directly tells us to pay attention to facial expressions, movements, moving clothes, musical ques, etc. College Level English II class. Since I'm uncertain of what the meaning behind this is, I won't fair well. I need a second opinion on what's going on, because between representations, I can't be sure which is more true.

Well yes. What my teacher is asking is what is significant of her leaving the apartment, but returning to take her plant she had left. From what I read, I thought she wanted to leave it, but was unsure. She comes back because she still has doubts and thinks the family needs to grow, or along those lines. However, the original movie representation seems to almost suggest she simply forgot it in the moment and came back to get it happily. Point being, I'm not sure on what was actually meant by the scene.

Edit: This page gives an even more different interpretation than what I already know. If the scene is just one of those extremely open-to-interpretation lines with little consensus, then I guess I can throw whatever the forget I think in. Usually, you want to stay close to what is agreed upon. Yes, college, you can fight for your opinion, but if it is what is true you don't want to be a dumb ass and make up stuff. Point being, if it really isn't agreed upon, then I'll try whatever.
