I'm not really sure I can be bothered when joining other servers now to make a new character.
As pretty much everyone I meet ends up using the same character loads on their own game or different server, and they end up with just stuff-loads of insane weapons (like those stupid ones that spawn ridiculous explosions that will insta-kill you, even though there's no PvP), or crazy decorations, or lots of musical instruments and things.

If I was on a more private server, with a few people who I knew would pretty much only be playing it when I'm also playing with them (so when we arrange to play), I'd be happier. Because then I know all our characters would be around the same point in terms of progress.

and if i join with my own mods (they're instruments) will i not be able to join

any mod that adds new things/alters stats is a no no

anything that changes textures of stuff and rewrites stuff like text (ship AI for example) should be fine though its only client-sided
