Author Topic: What happened to the quality of servers?  (Read 1534 times)

I am getting really sick of what kind of crap is stealing players on the server list. All I can find are effortless, spammy freebuilds, stuffty RPs, even stufftier TDMs that get old fast and are all cookie-cutter clones of each other, and Rendermen servers. I know that the general player-base has lower expectations than the forums, but I could not find one creative server on the list that has greater than one player. And it's no point trying to host something different, because people are scared of different and would never join, and those that do are 8-year old handicaps migrating from "masterchief946230626706's!!!!!!!! DOGE RP PLZ JOIN!!!" What happened to the game? :c

Bot event got failed.
I really feel like this is the cause for lack of a lot of main servers.

Brian Smithers fixed it though :c

Is it just me, or is this like- the sixth topic just like this?
It takes a lot of work to make a good server, if you don't like the current server why don't you try and make one?

There used to be a lot of good servers though. It's not like you have to re-build the server again and again, if the build was in Slate (which it should have been in the first place; Bedroom was cool but was bad for real building.) And I have tried to build a good server. Nobody joins. I have seen quite a few good-looking servers near the bottom of the list, but they have no players. Why? Because they're all playing RPs.

Loads of time ago I hosted a server, and it's pretty much just all about patience. If you wait long enough, people will come. Then more people. And more. The community will build itself over time, like any other game. It's not all going to happen at once.

But then again, that was a long time ago so I'm not sure how it is now.

Sounds like Blockland needs a good zombie survival or house build.

I personally find it different know. I made a really bad TF2 build when I first started playing and got it up to 30 players over time.  But that was back when we didn't have 27039672 million RP and Renderman servers. Nowadays, a server doesn't even build players unless:
A) It was made by a famous Blocklander like Glass
B) It was already a really popular server and achieved itself a good rep, like Pecon's Boss Battles
C) It's an RP and you roll the D20 and it lands on a prime number above 5

How long do you host before you give up?

Brian Smith never fixed it, it's still the same old abuse-able script which was originally released, it's best to wait for Badspot to release his version of bots. All that Brian Smith did was change the names and fixed some OnMinigame* events.

house build.
Times have changed.
It's like _NOONE_ joins them anymore, freebuilds are empty/piles of spam, ...

If you're disappointed about the lack of good servers then stop whining, stop being lazy and host some cool stuff.

There's been so many rants recently on the same thing. I don't think making tons more of these threads are going to change anything.

Also, some people have different tastes despite if they are way less original. Not everyone is going to cater towards you and if you have a great idea you should work on it.

Your definition of "good" is quite narrow and subjective.

This seems to be about what you like, not what the general consensus is. As if everyone has to agree that what you see is good is what we also see is good. I put a lot of damn hard work guiding the systems of my custom MERP server and quite a few people like it, so it must be good to them. See those top servers? See how there's over 10 people in each one? I'm guessing they find them good too.

Maybe you're the one with bad tastes.

Pecon7's is a pretty good server.

I agree, but I think it could have a few improvements with the items, but it's still a good server IMO.
